The upsurge of freelancers and contractors in recent years has created a new form of office space – the co-working space. Co-working is defined as the sharing of office space, typically by self-employed professionals who wish to work together in a communal, collaborative setting. While co-working spaces have been around for quite some time, industry trends suggest the concept is poised to grow beyond what anyone can expect.

Here are some new changes that will transform the co-working concept and make it even more attractive to people.

Amenities

Traditional desksadjustable height desks, and lounge areas have always been a staple at co-working spaces. This year, shared office spaces will provide greater access to recreational activities, including sports rooms, gaming tables, and more.  I find this trend especially exciting; it gives me the opportunity to show off my skills as the 1970 University of Florida Foosball Champion!

Technology

Technology continues to be as important in co-working spaces as it is everywhere else. This year, technology will go beyond traditional office utilities like printers, copiers, and the obsolete fax machine. Shared office spaces will integrate smart technology to keep up with the demands of the current workforce and modern work areas.

Nature

The idea of interior greenery has evolved from a trendy fashion statement to a near-necessity. Spaces brimming with plants and flowers are becoming more attractive to people. Co-working trends suggest new design concepts have also started to include green walls, and other structures that depict nature.

As co-working spaces continue to grow, so do the exciting trends.
