Over the past 10 years or so, the U.S. workforce has seen an influx of employees working remotely. In 2015, research was conducted and data was gathered regarding telecommuting, flexible scheduling, and freelancing. At the time, the number of professionals working remotely was 4 million and rising.
Like all of my clients know, I’m among the 4 million plus of people who work from home. And, while my home office is not exactly Pinterest-worthy, there are certain elements I’ve learned over the years that I can’t do without.
Get organized.
It’s easy to get distracted when you work from home, which is why, for me, organization is key. I use various storage and filing systems to keep myself and my workspace orderly. I also use communication boards to keep track of scheduled deliveries for my clients.
Have a set work space.
I have learned that I work best from a designated place with a large work desk and a comfortable office chair. For me, it makes sense to invest in something that’s pleasing to the eyes and easy on the back.
Illuminate the space.
I have my desk close to a window, which allows me to take advantage of the natural light in the room. But, even with the benefit of the great natural light, I’ve still added additional lighting for darker times of the day.
Create a resting area.
I use my desk for active work, but I also like to have a comfortable sitting area for when I’m thinking up new design idea, working out problems, or just taking a break.
Working from home is an awesome perk, but you need to create an inviting and functional working environment that will help you succeed. At Alliance Corporate Services, we certainly understand that. Contact us so we may help you create that space.
