Have you ever thought about how much time you spend seated in your office chair? Let’s do the math. If you work 40 hours a week, it comes to about 1,900 hours over the course of one year. That’s over 79 days!

Now that we’ve determined how much time you spend seated, I have another question for you. How much time, effort, and money did you spend selecting your office chair? I’m pretty sure the answer to that is “not as much as I should have.” After 45 years in the office furniture business, I know that most people place a greater emphasis on selecting their desk and miscellaneous office supplies than they do their office chair.

HOW DO YOU USE YOUR KEYBOARD? Hopefully, the answer to that is with a  pull-out tray, which enables you to lean back for better back support. What you don’t want to do is lean over your desk. The back of the chair is there to provide back support. Use it.

DO I NEED A HEADREST ON MY WORK CHAIR? A lot of people like the thought of leaning back and having their head supported with a headrest. A chair with a headrest is also a great option for people with neck pain.

A chair’s upholstery should be breathable, and keep you comfortable throughout the day. You don’t want the fabric to be abrasive, itchy, or something that may cause your body to overheat.

DO I NEED TO WORRY ABOUT ADJUSTABILITY? Yes. A good chair should allow for multiple adjustments, including up and down, side to side, lumbar support, and arm length and height.

Studies show the right office chair increases productivity and maximizes efficiency. With so many options, though, making a selection can sometimes feel like a daunting task. Now that you know some of the more important features, let Alliance Corporate Services help you find the perfect match.
